Women Contractors Take the Lead in SA’s Growth Boom

As South Africa’s construction sector enters a transformative era, the Construction Industry Development Board (cidb) is championing women’s inclusion through the 2025 Empowerment and Recognition of Women in Construction (ERWIC) Awards.

With the industry set to expand amid numerous infrastructure projects, women owned businesses are being urged to register with cidb to access vital opportunities.

Currently, CIDB registration is a mandatory requirement for state contracts and is gaining traction among private sector clients.

The cidb B.U.I.L.D Programme, which prioritizes women-owned enterprises, offers skills development, mentorship, and masterclasses, equipping contractors with essential tools to scale sustainably. “Registration is more than a compliance step it’s a pathway to quality assurance and project participation,” says cidb CEO Bongani Dladla.

The ERWIC Awards have grown into a powerful platform for innovation and leadership, providing networking opportunities and engagement with large firms committed to transformation.

Dladla emphasizes the importance of readiness: “With South Africa becoming a construction site, registered women will be at the forefront of this industry’s growth.”

Women in construction are encouraged to seize the moment register, participate, and nominate for the 2025 ERWIC Awards, ensuring that their contribution to the sector not only fosters economic growth but drives lasting change.
