Sibanye-Stillwater Strategic Projects Illuminate Europe’s Green Future

Sibanye-Stillwater has set an outstanding milestone when its Finnish Keliber lithium project and French GalliCam project were given Strategic Project status under the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA).

Accreditation reflects the company’s pioneer move towards autarkic Europe in strategic raw materials to CRMA’s 2030 raw material extraction, processing, and recycling targets.

CEO Neal Froneman added further, “We appreciate that the European Commission has also recognized the developmental contribution of our projects. It is proof that our vision in delivering sustainable growth and long-term shareholder value is valued by them.”

The Keliber Lithium Project will supply native battery-grade lithium hydroxide to Europe from its in-situ ore in 2026 to power the electric vehicle battery supply chain through a 15,000 tonnes per year production.

Meanwhile, the GalliCam Project to upgrade the Sandouville nickel refinery will dominate Europe’s EV industry cathode material production.

These projects are to drive global innovation and enhance economic growth and sustainability by speeding up Europe’s global leadership in clean technology.

The European Commission’s recognition is a testament to the pivotal direction these projects are heading towards the future of clean mobility and energy.
