This marks the first official visit by a Ukrainian Head of State to South Africa in 33 years of diplomatic ties. President Cyril Ramaphosa emphasized the significance of this event, recalling Ukraine’s support during South Africa’s liberation struggle and highlighting ongoing collaboration in peace diplomacy, agriculture, and trade.
Ministers from both nations are actively exploring investment opportunities, including the establishment of a joint mineral hub to produce and transport fertilizers across Southern Africa.
President Ramaphosa stated, “This is a historic visit. We acknowledge with great appreciation the support we received from Ukraine during our liberation struggle. Our engagement today reinforces our shared commitment to advancing peace, security, and sustainable development globally.”
President Zelenskyy echoed these sentiments, proposing innovative partnerships in energy security, agricultural trade, and modern technological solutions.
He also presented a list of 400 Ukrainian children reportedly held in Russia, urging South Africa’s assistance in their return.
