Strong Recovery: Ivanhoe Mines Secures Kakula Mine Stability

Ivanhoe Mines (TSX: IVN) (OTCQX: IVPAF) has provided clarification regarding the temporary suspension of operations at the Kakula underground mine in the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

The suspension, announced on May 20, 2025, was not due to structural collapse, as initially reported by Zijin Mining. Preliminary assessments suggest recent seismic activity led to rock scaling in some areas, but there is no evidence of collapsing stopes or pillars.

“Safety remains our highest priority, and our teams, along with geotechnical experts, are conducting thorough inspections to ensure the mine’s stability,” Ivanhoe Mines stated.

The company has swiftly mobilized efforts to repair underground infrastructure, focusing on cables and pipework supporting pumping systems.

Normal mining operations will resume gradually, starting with the western side of the Kakula Mine once all assessments are complete.

The DRC mining sector, a critical player in global copper production, relies on Ivanhoe Mines’ leadership in maintaining operational integrity.

The company is working closely with specialists and regulatory authorities to mitigate future risks, reinforcing investor confidence and safeguarding mining workforce stability.

The final impact of the suspension on annual production forecasts will be determined upon completion of underground investigations.

With resilient safety protocols and proactive management, Ivanhoe Mines continues to demonstrate best practices in responsible mining, strengthening trust in the DRC’s evolving industrial landscape.
